This delicious Velveeta fudge recipe is creamy, sweet, chocolatey, and absolutely wonderful.

The first time I had it, I couldn’t believe that Velveeta cheese was actually one of the ingredients. This is a great recipe if you want to impress others with your fudge-making skills.

Impossible Fudge Recipe with Velveeta

I was first introduced to this as “impossible fudge.” I’m not sure how it got that name or even who named it, but I do get it.All fudge is good, but this one has an edge, simply because of the unexpected ingredient.

After all, how can you get such a delicious candy from a block of cheese food? I’m a believer that this key ingredient is what adds the velvety texture to this delicious candy.

If you don’t want to give away your homemade fudge recipe, simply say that it has a secret ingredient that you can’t divulge. I would resist the urge to say you’ve made cheese fudge.

Another thing I like about this fudge is that you don’t need a candy thermometer. If you follow the directions, it comes out good every time.

Don’t let the main ingredient deter you from at least trying this delicious recipe. Back when my kids were much younger, it was truly a family favorite.

Ingredients

All of these ingredients are easy to find, including the secret ingredient. Here is what you’ll need:

  • Butter (salted or unsalted butter)
  • Velveeta
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Powdered sugar
  • Vanilla extract
  • Chopped nuts (optional)

Preparation

This is a very easy yet good fudge recipe. If you follow the directions, you wind up with candy that has a velvety texture.

First, line the bottom of a 7” x 11” (or 8” x 8” baking dish or pan with aluminum foil. Leave enough foil on both ends to make a handle so you can lift the fudge when it’s ready.

Spray nonstick cooking spray on the foil so it’s easy to remove the fudge.

How to Make Velveeta Fudge

Combine the powdered sugar and unsweetened cocoa powder in a large bowl and whisk until mixed. Set the bowl aside.

Put the bowl in the microwave and turn it on high for 1 minute. Remove from the microwave and stir.

Return the bowl of Velveeta and butter to the microwave and heat on high for another 30 seconds. Stir.

Repeat this process in 30-second intervals until both the Velveeta and butter have melted. Stir. They should be creamy smooth when mixed.

Pour the cheese mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Stir until well mixed.

Add the vanilla. Either stir or mix with an electric mixer until it has a smooth consistency.

Pour the mixture into the prepared pan.

Smooth out the top with a rubber spatula or knife to make sure the fudge mixture is even all the way across.

If you want to add nuts, sprinkle them over the top. Gently press them down into the fudge to help them stick.

Place the pan of fudge in the refrigerator and let it chill for at least 2 hours. If you have 3 hours or more, that’s better.

After the fudge sets, remove it from the refrigerator. Gently lift the foil out of the pan.

Carefully pull the foil down from the edges of the fudge. Cut into squares. It’s best to use a sharp knife to get a clean cut.

Note: If you want to double this recipe, it’s easy. All you have to do is double the ingredients and use a 9 x 13-inch pan.

Decorating Your Fudge

I like my Velveeta fudge with just a few nuts sprinkled over the top. However, if you’re making it for a special occasion, you can make it more festive by adding other things.

Here are some ideas for what you can sprinkle over the top of the fudge before it sets:

  • Peppermint sprinkles or peppermint candies
  • Colored sugar
  • Colorful sprinkles
  • White chocolate chips
  • M&Ms
  • Reeces Pieces
  • Any small colorful candy

Extra Tips to Make Impossible Fudge

Velveeta Fudge Recipe (11)

Following the directions will give you great results. Here are some extra tips to make it perfect:

  • Add an extra teaspoon of vanilla extract to give it a deeper flavor.
  • If you don’t want to use aluminum foil, at least use parchment paper. Otherwise, it’s difficult to get the fudge out of the pan.
  • For the perfect texture, stir the mixture after adding each ingredient.
  • Make sure the fudge is even all the way across the pan, or you’ll wind up with uneven thicknesses after you cut it.
  • Since this is a very creamy fudge, store it in an airtight container and put it in the refrigerator. If there’s any air space in the container, place a piece of plastic wrap over the top of the candy.

  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Line the bottom of a 7” x 11” baking dish or pan with aluminum foil. Leave enough foil on both sides to make a handle for lifting out the fudge when it’s ready. Spray nonstick spray on the foil to make it easy to remove the fudge.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the powdered sugar and unsweetened cocoa powder. Whisk until mixed.
  3. Cut the Velveeta into slices or cubes. Put Velveeta and butter in a medium bowl.
  4. Melt cheese and butter in microwave for 1 minute. Stir.
  5. Return to the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir again. Keep doing this until both have melted and you can mix them well.
  6. Pour the melted Velveeta and butter into the mixed dry ingredients. Stir until mixed.
  7. Add vanilla and finish mixing with an electric mixer. Or you can use a spoon if you prefer.
  8. Pour into the foil lined baking pan. If you plan to add nuts, sprinkle over the top and gently press them into the fudge.

  11. Carefully pull the foil down from the edges of the fudge. Cut into squares.

Notes

If you like a lot of nuts, you can add more than what’s listed above. My family prefers pecans, but you can use walnuts instead.

Store this fudge in the refrigerator. It’s super creamy and will spread out more if you leave it at room temperature.
